How to moisturize your scalp

For so many years I grew up hearing my mother and beautician say, "Keep your scalp well oiled so your hair will grow and not break off."  Hmm, what a difference a few years make.  Now a days, hair stylists would cringe to hear those words. Such "Oiling the scalp" with petroleum based oils will clog pores, resulting in increased dryness.

I just read a response to a question in  the Beauty/Hair Q&A column in "Ebony" magazine that helps to shed light on the subject of hair and scalp moisturzation. The response points out that moisture that the scalp can, in addition to clogging pores, build up on the hair shaft causing build up and attract dust which leads to a dull appearance of the hair.

Another interesting point made in the columnis that very dry hair could come from acne. In that case, the sufferer might need further treatment to cure the root problem.

Finally, hot oil treatments were recommended to help with deep moisturization.
