It makes me so happy to see other women letting their perms grow out with their natural hair being pampered as the true crowning glory. Trouble is many women don't know what styles to help facilitate this. Straightening combs are out as they dry, break and burn the hair. Braids are an option, if not too tight. What else is there?
This post will take a look at suggestions of experts. But remember, the key is to moisturize, moisturize and moisturize the hair regardless of the style to ensure that it is healthy and strong.
Twists
Virgin hair that is at least two inches long. Alternate this with an occasional curly afro to give your hair a break from the tension.
Coils
Coils are for hair that is medium length that is more virgin hair than relaxer. Remember, relaxed hair is chemically altered making it more subject to breakage.
Braids
Almost any hair can have braids. Remember, not too tight. To really allow the hair to rest though, cornrows are better than box braids. But, it all really depends on how you treat the braids. Make sure you use a good braid spray and scalp moisturizer as itching is common.
My Favorites
What I do is to alternate with box braids, like you see in the picture above so that my scalp can breathe. By the way, these are the kinky braids that match my hair texture. Btw, I braided it myself so I didn't apply too much tension to my scalp. I keep my hair well moisturized and use natural oils for treatments such as olive oil and argon oil.
