Be kind to your hair

I just wanted to share some good tips for washing and drying textured hair.  This hair is  prone to dryness, chemical and heat overuse, and breakage.  Therefore, anything that we do to strengthen it is good news.

 Hair washing tips

Tip #1 is a reminder: avoid sulfate and paraben products during your 'poo which tend to strip and dry the hair making it prone to breakage.  To strengthen your hair, it is also important to remember that overly hot water can weaken and dry the hair.  It is always best to go for lukewarm water.

Tip #2 is an excellent bit of advice from a professional.  According to the trichologist, Philip Kingsley, who addressed the matter in the Beauty Gazette from "O" Magazine, "don't even rub your hair with a towel."  He feels that the back-and-forth motion can disrupt the cuticle causing frizz and making the hair harder to style.  Mr  Kingsley suggests to gently wrap the hair in a towel and lightly press down on the hair with the palms to help it absorb as much water as possible.  Then use a wide-tooth combe to eliminate tangles.  Sounds like good advice to me!
