Finger nail beauty

Everyone is onboard the nail tip and manicure craze.  Women often wait for hours to get a French manicure, tips, acrylics, silk wraps and other costly nail procedures.  But how healthy are these popular practices for our nails?

This article will discuss some information and what you can do to improve your own nail health and beauty.

Acrylics, wraps, gels, tips

The nail is an appendage to the finger and is designed to provide protection from trauma and infection.
This structure is important because it allows us to perform detailed work that would otherwise be impossible, such as sewing and detailed drawing which could injure the fingertips.

In preparation for the acrylic or tips, the client's nail is filed down which weakens and thins the nail making it susceptible to breakage and harmful infections.  Additionally, the substances uses in the process are very harmful as they contain ethanol, formaldehyde and other potentially dangerous chemicals that are now easily absorbed through the now weakened fingernail.  The cutting away of the cuticle is compounds the problem as this allows bacteria to enter into the nail bed.  Again, this poses the potential for infection.

Healthier alternatives

Try the natural route to beautiful nails.  It might not be as easy, but you will be healthier and prouder of the finished product.

Try eating lots of protein like fish, lean meats and nuts, legumes.  Take vitamin supplements with collagen and vitamin C, which are great for growing skin and hair.    (Your overall health will improve since bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and weight control are also benefits.  I have been doing this for awhile and I've been pleased with the results.)

Avoid the use of nail polish, removers, acetones and such products which tend to dry out the nail. Remember the nails need oxygen and light to breathe and grow.  Protect your nails when doing housework with rubber gloves.  Don't use your nails to open things as this will weaken them, and or course, they will break.

Soak your nails in olive oil for health.  This will provide moisture, strength and prevent brittleness.

You'll be proud of the results.
