More skin care tips

Summer is fast approaching as are the dog long, hot days that accomapny this wonderful, fun-filled time of the year. With that comes lots of showering, swimming and showering and baths that we all need just to stay clean and fresh.  But, have you ever wondered about itchy skin after a shower or bath?  What can be done about it without sacrificing healthy skin.

Dry skin

Itchiness is often a sign of excessive dryness brought on by cold or heat, dry air, soap and bathing in hot water.  When the skin is very dry, it loses the protection of its natural oils which makes the nerves more sensitive.  What to do?

The best thing is to grab a towel, pat only partially dry and then apply rich body butters or creams-containing shea butter, for example,  that will provide the much needed moisture to the skin  Partially dry skin will allow the skin to soak up the moisture and lock it in.

Finally, if you find that excessive dryness is a problem, switch from soaps to a cleanser with added moisturizers.
