It is so much fun to see so many possibilities with hair lengths and styling options: from basic braiding extension to higher end 100% natural hair, they all can be customed to achieve a unique and personalized style. And, they look so natural. Flexibility and realistic looking are the buzz words.
In this post there are three options that I will discuss in hair extensions. Hopefully, this info will provide the reader with information as she tries to decide what suits here face and look.
These extension are good for those with fine or thinning hair. If your hair is very dry or damaged, pass on this one. Each strand is a 100% strand of human hair secured at the top with a keratin protein polymer cap. (It looks like a little plastic strip).
Many salons offer this service. In the area where I live, this is a specialty in the Brazilian shops. It can however, be quite costly. In the salon, the operator will bond the locks to your hair, near the scalp with a plier looking glue gun. The quantity that you need depends upon your style. The process may take two to six hours, again, depending upon the style.
To maintain, shampoo and condition with silicone-free products. (Silicone can make the extensions slip off). Avoid getting conditioner on the bonds. As with other extensions, these tangle easily, so brush them gently at least twice a day with a boar-bristle paddle brush.
This style can last three to four months depending upon hair growth rate. The operator will need to perform maintenance based upon individual needs.
Partial and full weave
A partial weave is best for a woman who wants to add volume or length to her current style. A full weave would be for someone who wants to change the color of her hair completely, or to let the hair rest and grow in healthier and strong, as in transitioning from a relaxer. If you like to wash your hair several times a week, this is not for you since the washing will loosen the weave. If you have thinning hair, this is not for you.
Generally, the hair is braided in cornrows along the scalp and the operator sews in the hair with cotton, nylon or silk thread. You can expect to spend up to three or four hours, as in the case of a full head weave. Shampoo and condition every three weeks. Make sure that the braided hair dries completely to avoid scalp irritation. Will last up to three months, depending upon individual needs and growth patterns.
Clip ins
This is a very temporary one night quick fix for length, highlights and color. If your hair is thin, bypass this one.
A clip in can run the gamut from a one-inch piece with one clip to a complete track that runs from ear-to-ear. This is a fantastic do-it-yourself, so you don't necessarily need an operator. Generally, remove them whenever you want to. Experts don't recommend sleeping in them or showering in them.
