I was just going through a couple of hair care magazines today and came across some info that I wanted to share on the Blog. (By the way, it really feels sooo good to see that professionals are recommending some of the same things that I have researched and read about...sounds like I'm headed in the right direction).
Styling aids
Be very, very careful about the styling products that you use. So many that have been on the market contain some really drying and damaging stuff: alcohol and parabens are just two examples.
Professionals advise staying away from styling products that contain SD alcohol, SD alcohol 70 and alcohol denatured. These products will dry your hair out. Note: this is also true of skin care products that contain a lot of alcohol. Instead, use botanically-drenched conditioners to help dried-out curls.
Also, stay away from products with ammonium laureth or sodium lauryl sulfate as they strip and dry the hair.
The 'Poo
For shampooing the professional recommend alternating shampoos with "co-washing". This process will hydrate the hair and gently cleanse it.
Also, to prevent frizz, don't touch it while it is drying. Speaking of drying, the pros add that you should use a diffuser attachment and set it on low. I even remember going to a shop and the stylist advised against washing with water that is too hot-to avoid drying.
